Most Embarassing Moment

It is the August 2007 National Music Festival Finals and everyone is hyped up. The high spirit of the competitors is unrivaled. Their mood undampened. The schools there have beaten all the rest in their provinces and the judges have chosen them as the best in their competitive categories. As a member of my high school choir I have by all means to be there. It has been a long first half of the academic year and I am willing to make the second half worth. After a few introductions and practice sessions, the schools take to the stage. Perfectly each school does its piece and quickly returns to practice for the next. Our school does its 'zilizopendwa' piece and since none of our remaining categories is being presented on that day, we disperse to embark on our favorite mission.-Girl Hunting/ Being Hunted (For the girls as it is a mixed school). Things go smoothly all afternoon long to a point where photos have to be involved. After the day's winners are crowned we bid our farewells and return to the bus to head to our sleeping site. I am elated as i have 'hit jackpot'.(For lack of a better description). Fellow students claim that they want food and so we head out into Nakuru town to get French Fries. Along the way small talk ensues in the school bus and soon almost everyone is having a great time with whoever they are with...
Nakuru town lights welcome us and the excited students want to disembark from the bus. The teachers refuse and we have to say in. Seconds, Minutes, Hour... and the students are impatient. One by one they leave the bus and stand just outside beside the bus. Oooh the wonders of peer pressure. Some opt for a 'drink' or two just to keep the mood up. Groups form outside and jokes lay the path to a laughter-filled night. Among one of the groups, there I stand laughing off my head. The jokes and stupid comments that come along continue. Its too much for me and I decide to lean against the bus. I take a step back, another and another then...
...darkness. Thick, wet, silent, stinking darkness. I gaze up and see a ray of light. Surely, this is not how the Bible describes the coming of the Lord. I expected a beam of shining light n trumpets. Not a sigly ray and deafening silence. Then suddenly the light disappears and a shadow overlooks me. A voice calls out to me. I immediately recognize it as my friend's. Then it hits me hard. I am inside an open manhole. I have fallen inside perfectly without a scratch. My skin is unscathed, my bones unbroken. I feel no pain at all. Sadly not all is left wholesome. With help from another few friends I am pulled out only to get to higher ground and find a parade of laughing musicians. I am sure that I will be the reference to everybody's 'mission' tomorrow. Someone has to be a reference to keep the girls laughing and interested. I am a sight to behold. My shirt is soaked in some thick & dark liqiud, my hands and bits of my face blackened as well. Some water is brought and I quickly clean my hands and face. I jump into the bus immediately and head to the back seat where i stay put till we get to our sleeping site. Luckily after a few jokes the matter is put on hold for that moment as people head to practise before bed.
The story might be referred to a few times later in life but nothing compares to that moment when i was pulled out of that hole and not even my looks could keep people's mouths shut.

The Horse

Where in this world can man find nobility without pridw,
Friendship without envy
Beauty without vanity
Here where grace is served by muscle
And strength by gentleness confined
He serves without servility; He has fought witout enmity
There is nothing so powerful, Nothing less violent
There is nothing so quick, Nothing more patient
The world's past has been borne on his back
All our history is in his industry
We are his heirs, he is our heritage
